Kim Ji-soo (Korean: 김지수)

Kim Ji-soo (Korean: 김지수), known mononymously as Jisoo, was born on January 3, 1995, in Gunpo, South Korea. She grew up with her parents, an older brother, and an older sister. As a child, she was active in sports such as basketball and taekwondo and initially aspired to be a painter or writer. Jisoo attended the School of Performing Arts Seoul, where she joined a drama club in her junior year, leading her to explore opportunities in the entertainment industry. She became a trainee at YG Entertainment in 2011 and spent years honing her skills before debuting.

Before her official debut, Jisoo made notable appearances in music videos, including Epik High’s “Spoiler + Happen Ending” and Hi Suhyun’s “I’m Different.” She also had a cameo in the KBS2 drama The Producers in 2015 alongside fellow YG artists.

Rise to Fame with Blackpink (2016–Present)

Jisoo debuted as a member of Blackpink on August 8, 2016, alongside Jennie, Rosé, and Lisa. The group quickly gained global recognition with their debut single album Square One, featuring the hits “Whistle” and “Boombayah.” Over the years, Blackpink became one of the most influential K-pop groups, breaking records and selling out stadiums worldwide.

From 2017 to 2018, Jisoo co-hosted Inkigayo alongside GOT7’s Jin-young and NCT’s Doyoung. She further expanded her career into acting, making a cameo in Arthdal Chronicles in 2019. In 2021, she landed her first lead role in Snowdrop, a JTBC drama that gained international success on Disney+.

On March 31, 2023, Jisoo made her solo debut with the single album Me, featuring the title track “Flower.” The album became the best-selling album by a female soloist in South Korea, selling over a million copies. “Flower” charted at number two on the Billboard Global 200 and the Circle Digital Chart, breaking records as the highest-charting song by a Korean female soloist in Canada and the UK.

After her successful solo debut, Jisoo founded her independent label, Blissoo, in 2024. In 2025, she signed with Warner Records and released the EP Amortage, with the lead single “Earthquake” topping the Billboard World Digital Songs chart.

Acting and Fashion Influence

Jisoo has continued to make her mark in the acting world, starring in Newtopia, a zombie apocalypse drama on Prime Video, alongside Park Jeong-min. She has also been cast in Black Rider, a primetime series on GMA Network.

Beyond music and acting, Jisoo has solidified her status as a fashion icon. She serves as a global ambassador for Dior, representing the brand at international events. Her influence extends to beauty trends, as seen when her “two-bow hairstyle” and makeup styles went viral.

Jisoo has received numerous accolades, including two Golden Disc Awards, three MAMA Awards, a Circle Chart Music Award, and the Seoul International Drama Award for Outstanding Korean Actress.
