Chadron is a city and the county seat of Dawes County, Nebraska, United States. Located in the Great Plains region, Chadron had a population of 5,206 at the 2020 census and 5,145 in 2023. History

The area around Chadron was historically inhabited by Indigenous peoples, including the Lakota Sioux. European-American settlers arrived in the late 19th century, drawn by opportunities in ranching, farming, and trade. Chadron was officially incorporated as a city in 1885. The city’s name is derived from Louis Chartran, a French fur trapper who established a trading post in the region.
