Mobile Passport Control (MPC)

Mobile Passport Control (MPC) is a free and secure mobile application designed to streamline the entry process for eligible travelers arriving in the United States. By using the MPC app, travelers can submit their travel document details, photo, and customs declaration electronically, reducing passport control inspection times and overall wait times.

Benefits of Using MPC

  • Reduced Wait Times: Eligible travelers may gain access to a designated MPC queue, expediting the customs inspection process.
  • Convenience: The app eliminates the need for a paper customs declaration form.
  • Cost-Free Service: The MPC app is completely free to download and use.

Eligible Travelers

The following groups are eligible to use the MPC app:

  • U.S. Citizens
  • U.S. Lawful Permanent Residents
  • Canadian B1/B2 Citizen Visitors
  • Returning Visa Waiver Program Applicants with approved ESTA

How to Use the MPC App

  1. Download the App: Obtain the MPC app from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store.
  2. Create a Profile: Add passport or lawful permanent resident card information. Travelers may create profiles for up to 12 individuals in one submission, ideal for families or groups.
  3. Pre-Arrival Preparation: Before arriving at a U.S. airport or seaport, open the app and select the appropriate entry location.
  4. Submit Upon Arrival: After landing, submit the required details and take a self-photo within the app. Internet connectivity (Wi-Fi or cellular data) is required for submission.
  5. Show Your Receipt: The app will generate a digital receipt, valid for four hours, which should be presented alongside your passport to a CBP officer at the designated MPC queue.

Key Features

  • No Pre-Approval Required: Travelers do not need to enroll or apply in advance.
  • Group Submissions: Up to 12 profiles can be stored on one device for faster group processing.
  • Secure Encryption: All submitted data is securely transmitted to CBP.

MPC-Approved Locations

MPC is available at various points of entry across the United States, including:

  • Airports: Major international airports such as JFK (New York), LAX (Los Angeles), MIA (Miami), ORD (Chicago), and ATL (Atlanta) are equipped with MPC facilities.
  • Preclearance Locations: Travelers departing from select international airports like Dublin (DUB), Abu Dhabi (AUH), and Calgary (YYC) can also use the MPC app.
  • Seaports: Miami Seaport (MSE), Palm Beach Seaport (WPB), and Port Everglades Seaport (PEV) accept MPC submissions.

Difference Between MPC and Global Entry

While both MPC and Global Entry aim to streamline entry into the United States, there are key differences:

  • MPC: Free service with no pre-approval required. Travelers must still see a CBP officer for final clearance.
  • Global Entry: Requires a $100 application fee and background check, but provides expedited clearance through kiosks without interacting directly with a CBP officer.

Important Considerations

  • MPC Receipt Validity: The digital receipt is valid for four hours only.
  • Passport Requirement: Even with the MPC app, travelers must present a valid passport or lawful permanent resident card to CBP officers.
  • Potential Queue Restrictions: While MPC users may access a designated queue, entry is not always guaranteed if conditions change or priority is given to certain travelers.
