Bukidnon State University (BukSU) is one of the premier higher education institutions in Northern Mindanao, Philippines. Historical Background

BukSU’s history spans nearly 100 years, evolving from a humble high school to a comprehensive state university.

  • 1924 (Foundation): The institution began as Bukidnon Provincial High School, offering secondary education and education courses to train elementary teachers.
  • 1929: It was renamed Bukidnon Normal School (BNS), becoming one of the five full-fledged secondary normal schools in the country.
  • 1976: By virtue of Presidential Decree 944, it was converted into Bukidnon State College (BSC), aiming to provide broader higher education programs.
  • 2007: A major milestone was achieved when Republic Act 9456 was signed, elevating the college to university status, officially becoming Bukidnon State University (BukSU).
  • Present Day: Today, BukSU is led by Dr. Joy M. Mirasol, who serves as the University President, continuing the institution’s legacy of “smart, sustainable, and inclusive” education.

Campuses

BukSU creates broad access to education through its extensive network of campuses across Bukidnon and Misamis Oriental.

  • Main Campus: Located in Malaybalay City, the capital of Bukidnon. This campus houses the primary administrative offices, the main library, and the majority of the academic colleges.
  • Annex Campus: Recently established in Barangay Casisang, Malaybalay City, to accommodate the growing student population.
  • Satellite Campuses: The university has expanded its reach to various municipalities to bring quality education closer to the people. These include:
    • Bukidnon: Baungon, Cabanglasan, Damulog, Impasug-ong, Kadingilan, Kalilangan, Kitaotao, Libona, Malitbog, Quezon, San Fernando, and Talakag.
