Minglanilla, Cebu – Sugat Capital of the South
Minglanilla proudly holds the title of the “Sugat Capital of the South.” This first-income class municipality in Cebu province captivates visitors with its rich history and vibrant culture. The town famously hosts the grand Kabanhawan (Resurrection) Festival every Easter Sunday.
History of Minglanilla
Minglanilla originally operated as a settlement known as “Buat.” Historians believe this name came from a local type of abundant shell. The area gained independence and established its own parish in 1858. The founding priest officially renamed the town to Minglanilla after a town in Spain.
The town faced significant trials over the centuries. Revolutionaries tragically burned the municipal building in 1905. Decades later, Japanese forces razed the poblacion to the ground during World War II. Despite these hardships, the resilient community rebuilt the vibrant town we see today.
