How to register for DTI Permit

This guide will show you how to get your Business Name Registration (BNRS) permit from DTI in the Philippines. It’s handy for both online sellers and traditional businesses in the country.


REQUIREMENTS

Before you start the registration process, make sure to prepare the following:

  • a device with Internet connection (mobile phone/smartphone/PC/laptop)
  • proposed name of your business – prepare at least 3-5 potential names, in case, your preferred name is no longer available
  • an active EMAIL ADDRESS
  • an active online payment account such as GCASH, PAYMAYA, LINK BIZ PORTAL, OR A CREDIT/DEBIT CARD. Prepare the following amount:
    • Barangay: Php 200.00
    • City/Municipality: Php 500.00
    • Regional: Php 1,000.00
    • National: Php 2,000.00
  • Understand the definition of terms used in the business name:
    • Dominant Name: A word, group of words, or combination of letters and numerals
    • Descriptor: A word or a group of words describing the nature of business
    • Scope of Business: The limit of your rights over your business name
      • Barangay: A business name can only be used within the barangay. The name can be used by businesses outside the barangay.
      • City/Municipality: A business name can only be used within the city/municipality. The name can be used by businesses outside the city/municipality.
      • Regional: A business name can only be used within the region. The name can be used by businesses outside the region.
      • National: A business name that you own and should not be used throughout the country.

With all these prepared, the business name registration process will be quick without hassle. You will most likely get the DTI permit within 10-15 minutes.

PROCEDURE

Once you have all of these prepared, do the following:

  1. Go to bnrs.dti.gov.ph.
  2. Click Register Now.
  3. On the new window, make sure you read the terms and conditions.
  4. Click I agree at the bottom to proceed.
  5. Provide the owner’s information such as:
    • If you are a stateless person
    • If you are a refugee
    • Citizenship
    • First Name
    • Middle Name
    • Name
    • Suffix
    • Date of Birth
    • Civil Status:
      • Single
      • Married
      • Widow/er
      • Legally Separated
    • Gender
  6. Provide the Business Scope.
    • Barangay
    • City/Municipality
    • Regional
    • National
  7. Provide other Business details.
    • Region
    • City / Municipality, Province
    • Barangay
  8. Provide the Dominant Name
  9. Provide the Business Name Descriptor
  10. Click Check name Availability
  11. You can decide whether to use any of the formats below:
    • Dominant Name – Business Descriptor
    • Business Descriptor – Dominant Name
  12. Click Validate Business Name
  13. Wait for the validation result to appear
  14. Scroll down then click Next
  15. On the next page, it will show the summary including the business name, business location or address, and amount to be paid including the documentary stamp (Php 30.00).
  16. Click Next
  17. You will receive a reference code. Kindly take note of your reference code as this will be used in all your transactions.
  18. Click Continue
  19. Provide all the other business name registration details such as the mobile number, owner’s TIN (Tax Identification Number), residence address, capitalization, and EMAIL ADDRESS
  20. Please make sure that you provide the correct email address because DTI will send a copy of your permit to your email address
  21. Click Next
  22. Proceed with the payment via GCASH, PAYMAYA, and CREDIT / DEBIT CARD.
  23. Once payment is successful, check your email with the electronic copy of your DTI Permit.
