Siege & Aftermath

In 2017, Marawi endured a five-month siege by ISIS-affiliated militants. The conflict resulted in over 1,000 deaths and displaced more than 350,000 residents. Key extremist leaders, including Isnilon Hapilon and Omar Maute, were killed. The government declared the city liberated in October of the same year.

Rehabilitation & Rebuilding

The Philippine government launched an extensive rebuilding program led by Task Force Bangon Marawi (TFBM). Major infrastructure projects include the reconstruction of bridges, the Sarimanok Stadium, and several community halls, schools, and health centers. Housing efforts have yielded thousands of permanent and transitional shelters for displaced families.
