Municipality of Tupi is a hidden gem in South Cotabato that offers a refreshing escape for nature lovers, adventure seekers, and pilgrims alike. Known as the “Fruit, Flower, and Vegetable Basket of South Cotabato”, Tupi is blessed with fertile soil and a cool, high-altitude climate that makes it the primary source of the region’s agricultural bounty.
Whether you’re looking for a sea of sunflowers, extreme rides, or a quiet place for reflection, Tupi has it all.
History and Heritage
The name “Tupi” is steeped in local legend. It is said to have originated from “tufi”, a beetle leaf chewed by the native inhabitants. When early visitors asked for the name of the place, the natives – thinking they were being asked what they were chewing – answered “tufi”, which eventually evolved into the town’s name.
Tupi was officially established as a municipality on September 11, 1953, by Executive Order No. 612 signed by President Elpidio Quirino. Today, it stands as a thriving first-class municipality and a center for eco-tourism.
