Sky Tower – Auckland’s Icon of Height, Light, and Story
Standing 328 meters tall in the heart of Auckland, the Sky Tower is the tallest freestanding structure in the Southern Hemisphere. It is more than just an observation point – it is a cultural landmark, an entertainment hub, and a symbol of connection for the people of Tāmaki Makaurau and visitors from around the world.
Unmatched Views from Every Angle
The Sky Tower offers three observation levels:
- Level 51 (186m) – Main Observation Deck
- Level 53 (190m) – Sky Café
- Level 60 (220m) – Sky Deck with floor-to-ceiling glass
From the top, enjoy panoramic views of Auckland, Rangitoto Island, the Waitematā Harbour, and beyond. It is the ideal spot for photography, sightseeing, or simply taking in the city skyline.
Special Events – Light and Storytelling
As part of SkyCity’s Winter Fest, the Sky Tower hosts Matariki-themed projection shows. This includes Wharenui Harikoa, a large-scale visual display created by Lissy and Rudi Robinson-Cole. Through light and color, the tower becomes a storytelling vessel that celebrates the Matariki star Hiwa-i-te-rangi, representing our wishes and aspirations.
Event: Projection Show
Dates: Friday to Sunday
Time: 5:30 PM – 10:30 PM
Location: Sky Tower, Auckland CBD
These displays highlight the tower’s role in cultural celebration and collective reflection.
Annual Firefighter Sky Tower Challenge
Each year, the Sky Tower hosts the Firefighter Sky Tower Challenge – a nationwide fundraising event supporting Leukaemia and Blood Cancer New Zealand. In 2025, over 1,150 firefighters climbed all 1,103 steps in full gear, raising nearly $2 million.
This event reflects the tower’s deep connection to the community and its impact beyond tourism.
