Fremont is a city in Alameda County, California, located in the southeastern part of the San Francisco Bay Area. It is the fourth most populous city in the Bay Area, after San Jose, San Francisco, and Oakland, with a population of 226,208 as of 2023. History

Fremont’s origins trace back to Mission San José, a Spanish mission founded in 1797 by Padre Fermín Lasuén. In 1956, the city was officially incorporated when the towns of Mission San José, Centerville, Niles, Irvington, and Warm Springs merged. Fremont was named after John C. Frémont, a military officer who played a key role in the American conquest of California.
