National Service Training Program (NSTP) – Tagum City

NSTP stands for the National Service Training Program. It is a program in the Philippines mandated by law for all college students to undergo as a requirement for graduation. The program aims to promote civic consciousness, develop social responsibility, and instill a sense of nationalism among the Filipino youth.

The NSTP was established through Republic Act No. 9163, also known as the NSTP Act of 2001. It replaced the Reserved Officers’ Training Corps (ROTC) program as the primary form of military training for college students.

The NSTP is composed of three components, and students can choose which component to take based on their interests and capabilities. The three components are as follows:

  1. Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (ROTC): This component focuses on military training and leadership development. It aims to produce reserve officers for the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) and instill discipline, patriotism, and physical fitness among the students.
  2. Civic Welfare Training Service (CWTS): The CWTS component emphasizes community service and engagement. Students participating in CWTS are involved in various community projects and activities that address societal issues and contribute to community development.
  3. Literacy Training Service (LTS): The LTS component focuses on improving literacy and numeracy skills among marginalized communities. Students involved in LTS typically engage in teaching and assisting in literacy and numeracy programs in partnership with local communities and schools.

The NSTP is usually implemented during the first year or first two years of college, depending on the university’s curriculum. Students earn academic units for completing the program, and these units are counted towards their total credits required for graduation.

The NSTP program aims to develop well-rounded individuals who are socially aware, active citizens, and capable of contributing to the betterment of society. It provides students with opportunities to engage with communities, understand societal issues, and develop leadership and teamwork skills.
