Pantaleon Alvarez – Davao Del Norte

Pantaleon “Bebot” Diaz Alvarez, born on January 10, 1958, is a Filipino politician who represented the 1st district of the Province of Davao Del Norte in the House of Representatives of the Philippines. He served in this position from 1998 to 2001, and later from 2016 until the present time.

In addition to his time in Congress, he held various other government positions such as serving as a staff member for former Senator Wigberto Tañada from 1987 to 1992, and as the Secretary of the Department of Transportation and Communication from 2001 to 2002.

Alvarez is a member of the PDP-Laban political party and a close ally of President Rodrigo Duterte. He served as the Speaker of the House of Representatives from 2016 to 2018, during which he supported several initiatives of the Duterte administration, including the shift to a federal form of government and the impeachment of Chief Justice Maria Lourdes Sereno.

However, a leadership dispute within the House of Representatives led to his eventual ousting as Speaker in 2018.

Alvarez received his undergraduate degree from Far Eastern University (FEU) in 1978 and later attended the Ateneo De Manila Law School, where he obtained his law degree in 1983.

He practiced private law from 1984 to 1986.
