Montfort Bat Sanctuary is a conservation site located in the town of Tambo, Samal Island in Davao del Norte, Philippines. It is home to thousands of fruit bats, also known as flying foxes, which play an important role in pollination and seed dispersal in the area.
The sanctuary was established by the Montfort Brothers in 2006 to protect the bat population from being hunted and killed for food and to promote awareness about the importance of these creatures in the ecosystem. The site covers an area of about 2 hectares and features a viewing deck, a garden, and a small museum with educational exhibits.
Visitors can observe the bats as they fly out of the sanctuary at sunset to forage for food. The bats are usually most active from October to May. The sanctuary also offers guided tours and educational programs for visitors to learn more about the bats and their habitat.
Montfort Bat Sanctuary is not only a popular tourist destination but also a valuable conservation effort to protect the natural environment and promote the importance of preserving biodiversity.
