Surigao City is set to receive a major boost in its food security program as the government prepares to distribute 30,000 sacks of rice across all 54 barangays in the city. The initiative aims to ensure that every community, especially the most vulnerable, has access to adequate food supplies in the coming months.
The rice distribution program is part of the national government’s broader food security strategy, channeled through the National Food Authority (NFA) and local government units. Each barangay will receive an allocation based on population size and need, with priority given to low-income communities, solo parents, senior citizens, and persons with disabilities.
Local officials in Surigao City have expressed gratitude for the program, emphasizing that the rice distribution will provide much-needed relief to families still recovering from the economic impacts of recent challenges. The program also complements the city’s existing feeding programs and social welfare initiatives.
Barangay officials are tasked with preparing master lists of beneficiaries to ensure orderly and transparent distribution. Residents are advised to coordinate with their respective barangay halls for the schedule and requirements. The distribution is expected to be completed in phases over the coming weeks.
Surigao City, known as the “City of Island Adventures,” is home to over 150,000 residents spread across its mainland and island communities. The city government continues to partner with national agencies to deliver essential services and support to all Surigaonons.
