France’s beloved nationwide music celebration, the Fete de la Musique, returns on Sunday, June 21, 2026, for its 45th edition. From Paris to the smallest villages, musicians of all levels will take to the streets, parks, and public squares to fill the air with free live music from morning until late at night.
A French Tradition
Created in 1982 by the French Ministry of Culture, the Fete de la Musique has grown into a massive cultural phenomenon. Every year on June 21 – the summer solstice – amateur and professional musicians alike flood public spaces across France with concerts spanning every genre: classical, jazz, rock, hip-hop, folk, chanson, electronic, brass bands, and choirs.
There are no tickets or admission fees. The streets themselves become the venue. Over 120 countries now participate worldwide, but the heart of the celebration remains in France.
What Happening in 2026
In Paris, hundreds of free concerts are planned across every arrondissement. Highlights include France Inter’s free concert at the Olympia featuring Chilly Gonzales and the Assemblee Nationale opening its doors for special musical visits. In Aix-en-Provence, 15 stages animate the city center from 6 PM to 2 AM. Lille hosts its 43rd edition with concerts in markets, parks, and churches. The Institut du Monde Arabe presents a Mediterranean musical creation.
