GENERAL SANTOS CITY — The city government of General Santos has officially switched on a ₱413.3-million Traffic Signalization and CCTV Synchronization Program, a landmark infrastructure project that integrates adaptive traffic lights with a citywide surveillance system aimed at easing congestion and improving public safety.
The project, which represents one of the largest single investments in the city’s traffic management infrastructure, is expected to significantly reduce travel times along major thoroughfares in General Santos City. Adaptive traffic signals will use real-time data to adjust signal timing based on actual traffic flow, moving away from fixed-time systems that often cause unnecessary delays.
The synchronized CCTV component will provide city officials with a comprehensive view of traffic conditions across key intersections and roads, enabling faster response to incidents and better urban planning decisions.
City officials said the program addresses long-standing complaints from motorists and commuters about worsening traffic congestion in General Santos, particularly along the national highway and in the city proper. The project has been in development for several years and faced delays, including the need for motorists to endure construction-related disruptions.
The launch of the Traffic Signalization and CCTV Synchronization Program positions General Santos City as one of the more technologically advanced local government units in the SOCSARGEN region when it comes to urban traffic management.
Residents and motorists are encouraged to familiarize themselves with the new traffic signal patterns as the system goes through its calibration phase. The city government has pledged to continue monitoring and optimizing the system in the coming months.
