The southwest monsoon, locally known as habagat, continues to bring scattered rains and thunderstorms across Cebu, including Lapu-Lapu City, as the region experiences typical wet-season weather patterns.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) reported that the habagat is affecting the Visayas and parts of Mindanao, bringing cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms to Cebu province. Residents of Lapu-Lapu City and neighboring areas are advised to monitor weather conditions, as heavy downpours may cause localized flooding in low-lying areas.

The habagat is a prevailing wind system that blows from the southwest across the Philippines during the rainy season, typically from June to September. It carries moist air from the warm ocean waters, fueling convective activity that produces afternoon and evening thunderstorms across the archipelago.

Local authorities in Lapu-Lapu City have urged residents to take precautionary measures, including securing loose outdoor items, avoiding travel during heavy downpours, and staying alert for possible flash floods in vulnerable areas. Motorists along the Mactan-Mandaue Bridge and other major thoroughfares are advised to drive carefully, as wet road conditions can reduce visibility and increase the risk of accidents.

Despite the rains, temperatures in the region remain warm, ranging from 25°C to 32°C, with high humidity levels. The intermittent weather is expected to persist over the coming days as the habagat continues to influence the region’s weather patterns.

Lapu-Lapu City, home to the Mactan-Cebu International Airport and numerous resort hotels along its eastern coast, sees thousands of domestic and international travelers daily. Tour operators and hotel operators are keeping guests informed about weather conditions, while outdoor activities such as island-hopping tours may be subject to cancellation or rescheduling depending on sea conditions.

Residents and visitors are encouraged to stay updated through official PAGASA weather bulletins and local government advisories for the latest information on the habagat’s impact on the area.
