The Port of Lucena in Quezon province is gearing up for a major upgrade as its new passenger terminal building is scheduled to open in the third quarter of 2026, according to the Department of Transportation (DOTr).

The modern facility, which can accommodate up to 1,000 passengers at a time, is expected to significantly boost tourism and improve travel convenience in Lucena City and the surrounding areas of Quezon province.

A More Passenger-Friendly Port

Transportation Secretary Giovanni Lopez, who personally inspected the port project, emphasized the administrations commitment to transforming Philippine ports into modern and passenger-friendly facilities.

The President directed us to improve our ports into modern and passenger-friendly ones. One example is to implement these at the Port of Lucena and other ports across the country, Lopez said during his visit.

Automated Ticketing and Solar Power

Philippine Ports Authority General Manager Jay Santiago shared that the new terminal will feature automated ticketing counters, streamlining the booking process for travelers. The building will also be equipped with solar panels, making it an environmentally sustainable facility.

Passengers will be more comfortable in their travel as the booking procedure will be improved, Santiago noted.

Boosting Tourism in Quezon Province

The upgraded terminal is seen as a key infrastructure project that will support the growing tourism industry in Quezon province. With better facilities and improved passenger experience, Lucena City is positioned to become an even more attractive gateway for travelers heading to popular destinations in the region.

The Port of Lucena serves as a vital transportation hub connecting Luzon to various island destinations, and the new terminal is expected to handle the increasing volume of passengers more efficiently.
