Adidas are set to release a special fourth kit for Manchester United to celebrate the 125th anniversary of the club adopting its iconic red, white, and black color combination. This historic shift occurred in 1902 when the team officially rebranded from Newton Heath to Manchester United, permanently leaving behind their original green and gold jerseys.
While several top European clubs have frequently adopted fourth shirts for special cup ties, derbies, or limited-edition collaborations over the years, the Red Devils have historically maintained a strict three-shirt rotation. A fully-fledged, physical fourth match kit represents entirely new territory for the Adidas-Manchester United partnership.
Two Distinct Versions Planned
Details indicate that there will actually be two distinct versions of the fourth kit produced for the collection. The primary jersey is expected to feature a classic Man Utd Red base, naturally designed to be paired with white shorts and black socks to directly honor the famous 1902 uniform change.
Meanwhile, a secondary version will be released in a Court Green colorway, serving as a clever homage to the clubs Newton Heath origins. It could, however, also serve as a goalkeeper kit.
A New Era for Man United Apparel
Given the early 2027 launch window, the Adidas Manchester United FC 2026-2027 fourth football shirt will likely be debuted during domestic or European cup fixtures rather than standard Premier League play.
While Adidas has previously created special Chinese New Year capsules, digital EA Sports jerseys, and various lifestyle ranges for United, a fully-fledged, physical fourth match kit represents a significant expansion of their long-standing partnership. It also opens the door for more special-edition releases in the future, giving fans and collectors even more options when it comes to Manchester United apparel.
For those interested in custom shirt printing, a fourth kit provides yet another design template to work with – whether it is the classic red-and-white anniversary edition or the nostalgic Newton Heath green.
The 125th anniversary kit is expected to be available through the official Manchester United store and Adidas retail channels in early 2027. Stay tuned for official release dates and pricing.
