General Santos City power grid has been fully restored following the devastating magnitude 7.8 earthquake that struck Mindanao on June 8, 2026. The Department of Energy confirmed that power transmission services across South Cotabato, Sarangani, and General Santos City were back online by 1:38 PM on June 9.

The restoration came as a relief to thousands of residents and businesses that had been without electricity since the powerful quake rocked southern Philippines. The earthquake, which registered an intensity of PEIS VII destructive in General Santos City, caused widespread damage to infrastructure across the region.

The business community had been vocal about the need for swift action. Earlier, business leaders in GenSan called on authorities to prioritize rehabilitation of both the power grid and major highways connecting the city to neighboring provinces. The city serves as a major commercial hub in the SOCSKSARGEN region, and prolonged power outages threatened to disrupt supply chains.

The City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office reported that while power has been fully restored, some areas continued to experience water supply issues. Relief operations and infrastructure assessment remained ongoing as the city worked toward full recovery.

Local officials expressed gratitude to the teams who worked around the clock to restore essential services. For more news about General Santos City, visit phshirt.com.
