The Kidapawan City Local Government Unit (LGU) successfully conducted a citywide cleanup activity in celebration of World Environment Day 2026, bringing together hundreds of volunteers from across the city’s 40 barangays.
The massive cleanup drive, held on Friday, June 5, 2026, saw participation from representatives of the Bureau of Fire Protection-Kidapawan, Notre Dame of Kidapawan College, Sangguniang Kabataan-Poblacion, participants from the Special Program for the Employment of Students (SPES), and staff from the Environment Management Bureau Region 12.
Focus on Nuangan River
Under the leadership of the City Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO), the cleanup focused heavily on the Nuangan River, a vital waterway running through Kidapawan City. CENRO-Head Ann Dulay announced that their office continues to monitor and conduct regular cleanup operations along the river to ensure its preservation.
The local government stated that the CENRO-led initiative made it possible to clean the Nuangan River as well as other areas across Kidapawan City.
Call for Responsible Waste Disposal
Dulay urged residents, especially those living near rivers and other public places, to practice responsible garbage disposal. The city government emphasized that environmental protection is a shared responsibility between the LGU and the community.
This citywide initiative reflects Kidapawan’s ongoing commitment to environmental sustainability and public health. The cleanup activity is part of a broader effort by the city government to promote eco-friendly practices and maintain the natural beauty of the city nestled at the foothills of Mount Apo.
