FANCON 2026, Ukraine’s largest pop culture festival, drew an estimated 45,000 visitors to the International Exhibition Center in Kyiv on June 6-7. The massive two-day event transformed 28,000 square meters of exhibition space into a vibrant playground for cosplayers, gamers, comic collectors, K-pop dancers, and pop culture enthusiasts from across the country.
Cosplay and Costume Culture Steal the Show
The festival’s biggest draw was undoubtedly the Cosplay & K-Pop Cover Dance Show, featuring a record prize fund of 240,000 UAH across multiple categories. Cosplayers spent months crafting intricate costumes from anime characters and Marvel superheroes to elves, cyberpunk warriors, and original fantasy designs. A dedicated Cosplayers’ Alley was introduced this year.
Official Witcher cosplayer Maul Cosplay made a special appearance, sharing stories about his connection to Ukraine. Star Wars actor Mickey Lewis also attended, calling Ukrainians the bravest people he has ever met.
Geek Bazaar Marketplace
The Geek Bazaar returned as Ukraine’s largest pop culture merchandise market. Attendees browsed hundreds of booths selling custom-printed apparel, cosplay accessories, graphic t-shirts, hoodies, enamel pins, bags, hats, and other fan merchandise. Over 2,500 square meters were dedicated to comic book publishers and Artists’ Alley, where independent creators sold their art and prints.
Gaming and Panels
FANCON 2026 featured seven stages running simultaneous programming including board games, tabletop RPG sessions, fantasy novel presentations, and film panels with Ukrainian directors. The festival also raised funds for the 3rd Separate Assault Brigade.
Apparel and Merchandise Angle
Events like FANCON demonstrate the thriving demand for custom apparel and fan merchandise in Ukraine. From official festival merchandise to independent creators selling shirt designs, the festival showcases how pop culture and fashion intersect. Cosplayers work with local print shops for costumes, while vendors rely on high-quality printing for product lines. With attendance growing from 36,000 in 2025 to 45,000 in 2026 and an average attendee age of 23, FANCON is cementing itself as a key event for the custom apparel space.
