Gibraltar’s community spirit was on full display as the annual Triple A Family Fun Day raised more than £3,000 while promoting autism awareness and inclusion on the Rock. Held at Casemates Square, the event brought together families, supporters, and community members for a day packed with entertainment, fundraising activities, and demonstrations.
A Decade of Autism Awareness
Triple A, which stands for Awesome Autism Awareness, was established in 2014 and has since become an annual fixture on Gibraltar’s community calendar. Organized by Lesley Chadwick of Little Smiles and Ernest Slade of the Musicians Association of Gibraltar, the event has grown year after year, raising both funds and awareness for autism support services in the local community.
A Day of Entertainment and Community
Visitors enjoyed games, activities, and crafts at stalls across Casemates Square, while demonstrations by the Gibraltar Fire and Rescue Service proved hugely popular with families. Children had the chance to take photographs with superhero characters including Superman and Wonder Woman, adding a touch of magic to the day.
The entertainment program kicked off at noon with a performance by the 1st/4th Scout Group, followed by Jukebox Fever led by local singer Jes Scruton White. Youth band Sentinel 5 performed, and Della Slade and her band delivered a set of original country-pop material and covers. The Slade family presence was particularly special, with five family members performing together on stage alongside long-time friend Nick Capurro on keyboards and young drummer Charles Camilleri.
Local favorites Bob and the Boys entertained the crowd with classic hits from Creedence Clearwater Revival and Albert Hammond. Visitor Ami Lloyd, traveling from the Costa del Sol, engaged the audience with popular covers and sing-alongs. The event closed with local band The Hypnics, whose surf-rock-inspired original music brought the curtain down on a memorable day.
A Personal Message
During a break in The Hypnics’ set, Harvey Chadwick spoke movingly about his experiences growing up in Gibraltar as a young person on the autism spectrum, underlining the event’s core focus on awareness, acceptance, and inclusion.
Government Support
Minister for Health Gemma Arias-Vasquez addressed attendees during the afternoon, highlighting the importance of autism awareness and the significant progress made in autism support services in Gibraltar in recent years.
The organizers thanked performers, volunteers, sponsors, supporters, and attendees for their contributions to another successful Triple A Family Fun Day.
