Lapu-Lapu City officially opened its Tourism Expo 2026 on June 15 at the Mahi Center in Barangay Ibo, marking the start of a five-day event designed to boost local enterprises and showcase the city thriving hospitality sector.
The expo, which runs until June 19, features 11 exhibitors from the tourism and hospitality sectors offering travel and accommodation packages, along with other services aimed at visitors and residents alike. The event serves as a platform for tourism stakeholders, businesses, and government partners to showcase their products while promoting inclusive growth in the local community.
Mayor Ma. Cynthia Cindi Chan led the opening and highlighted the expo as a key part of the city 65th Charter anniversary celebrations. She emphasized Lapu-Lapu City transformation from a quiet coastal town into an economic powerhouse and global hub for Mice events — meetings, incentives, conferences, and exhibitions.
Tourism remains our bread and butter; it generates thousands of jobs for our workforce, supports our transport sectors and sustains our local artisans and entrepreneurs, Chan said. We have evolved into a destination fully capable of hosting major international summits, global sporting events, and high-level corporate conferences.
The mayor encouraged the public to take advantage of exclusive travel deals, staycation packages, and special booking promotions offered by participating exhibitors throughout the five-day event.
In celebration of the 65th Charter anniversary, Proclamation 1276 declared June 17 a special non-working day in Lapu-Lapu City, suspending classes across all public and private schools. The anniversary carries the theme, Celebrating 65 Years of Service and Progress: Empowered by People, United in Purpose.
The Tourism Expo underscores Lapu-Lapu City position as one of the country premier travel destinations, home to world-class resorts, a vibrant business community, and a rich cultural heritage that continues to attract visitors from around the globe.
