Lapu-Lapu City marked a major milestone on June 17, 2026, as it celebrated its 65th Charter Day with a grand celebration at the City Hall grounds.

The event was highlighted by an inspiring address from Mayor Ma. Cynthia Cindi Chan, who honored the city workers and residents as the true backbone of Lapu-Lapu continuous progress.

Among the milestones celebrated was the success of the city fully local government-funded comprehensive housing initiative, which has provided shelter and stability to countless families. The mayor also highlighted significant upgrades to medical equipment at both the Lapu-Lapu City Hospital and Santa Rosa Community Hospital.

The celebration carried extra significance as the National Government, through the Office of the President, announced a grant of P200,000 to each barangay in Lapu-Lapu City to boost local community development.

Mayor Chan also took the opportunity to look ahead, unveiling ambitious plans for major infrastructure upgrades. These include the construction of a new City Hall building and the modernization of the Lapu-Lapu City Hall Complex.

The 65th Charter Day celebration also recognized the city successful hosting of the Asean Summit 2026 earlier in the year, as well as the launch of the OneLapuLapu app.

Lapu-Lapu City, once a quiet coastal town, has grown into a dynamic urban center known for its thriving tourism industry, bustling business sector, and vibrant community life.
