ZAMBOANGA CITY — The Zamboanga Electric Cooperative (ZAMCELCO) deployed a 12-man team of engineers and linemen to General Santos City on Tuesday, June 9, 2026, as part of the Task Force Kapatid program to help restore electricity in areas devastated by the magnitude 7.8 earthquake that struck Mindanao a day earlier.
Lawyer Rommel Agan, ZAMCELCO Chief Management Officer, led a send-off ceremony for the contingent, which brought a boom truck and other specialized equipment to support the Southern Cotabato Electric Cooperative II (SOCOTECO II) in restoring power to affected towns in General Santos City and Sarangani Province.
ZAMCELCO’s team was among 33 electric cooperatives across Mindanao that deployed a combined force of 185 personnel and 39 support vehicles to aid in clearing and power restoration operations following the June 8 quake.
According to the National Electrification Administration, approximately 338,476 consumers lost power supply due to the earthquake. By Tuesday, at least 201,654 households and establishments or 60% of affected consumers across six out of ten impacted municipalities were expected to be re-energized.
ZAMCELCO’s contingent met up with teams from Pagadian City before convoying to General Santos City together. Agan reminded the team to prioritize safety, telling them: “There will be twelve of you who are leaving today, and there will be twelve of you coming back after your work is done.”
