Zamboanga City Mayor Khymer Olaso has signed a memorandum of agreement (MOA) with the Land Bank of the Philippines – Zamboanga Branch that will allow senior citizens and other special sectors to open a bank account with just a ₱1.00 initial deposit and maintain the same minimum balance.

The Land Bank PISO Account (Perang Inimpok Savings Option) was formally forged on Friday, June 5, between Mayor Olaso and Land Bank Zamboanga Branch Head Ruby Rose Estipona. The program will initially benefit the city’s senior citizens before expanding to students, indigents, and other sectors, the city government announced.

“This initiative is a fulfillment of a promise I made during the 2025 campaign period to digitize systems in the city,” Mayor Olaso said. He emphasized that utilizing automated teller machines will ensure that financial assistance reaches beneficiaries faster and more securely.

The MOA signing was authorized by the Sangguniang Panlungsod through Resolution No. 1065, approved on May 5. Zamboanga City has approximately 80,000 senior citizens on record. The PISO account will be pilot-tested in one barangay before being expanded to other barangays across the city.

To open the accounts, senior citizens will undergo an orientation conducted by Land Bank and the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO). Estipona thanked Mayor Olaso and the city government for adopting the agreement, stressing that the PISO account ensures recipients easier, safer, and more convenient access to their benefits.

This local government initiative strengthens Zamboanga City’s commitment to financial inclusion and digital transformation at the grassroots level. Whether you are a business owner looking to design promotional shirts for community outreach programs or part of an organization preparing customized uniforms for local events, initiatives like these reflect the city’s forward-looking spirit. For barangay events and organizational activities tied to programs such as the PISO account rollout, personalized event shirts are a great way to foster community pride and participation.

As Zamboanga City continues to implement programs that uplift its residents, the PISO account represents a meaningful step toward accessible financial services for all sectors.
