For the first time in history, the prestigious Billie Jean King Cup comes to the Republic of San Marino. From June 15 to June 21, 2026, the Cassa di Risparmio Tennis Center in Fonte dell’Ovo (Montecchio) will host the Europe Group III tournament, marking a landmark moment for Sammarinese tennis and sports tourism.
The Billie Jean King Cup — formerly known as the Fed Cup — is the world’s largest annual international team competition in women’s sport, with more than 100 nations participating. Named after the legendary 39-time Grand Slam champion and gender equality advocate Billie Jean King, the tournament is the women’s equivalent of the Davis Cup.
13 Nations Compete in San Marino
The Europe Group III stage will see 13 national teams battling for promotion: Albania, Andorra, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Estonia, Iceland, Ireland, Kosovo, Luxembourg, Malta, Moldova, Montenegro, and host nation San Marino. Each team will compete in round-robin matches, with the group winners advancing to the higher divisions.
“Organizing the Billie Jean King Cup in San Marino was one of the goals we set for 2026, and we are proud to have obtained this very important assignment,” said Elia Santi, president of the Sammarinese Tennis Federation (FST).
A Boost for San Marino Sports
Hosting an international tennis event of this caliber is a significant achievement for the small republic. The tournament brings together athletes, coaches, officials, and tennis fans from across Europe, showcasing San Marino’s ability to organize world-class sporting events. The matches are free for the public to attend, making it an accessible and exciting week for locals and visitors alike.
San Marino has been steadily building its reputation as a host for international sports competitions. The Billie Jean King Cup joins a growing calendar that includes the San Marino Open ATP Challenger 125 (July 27-August 2) and the 54th San Marino Rally (June 19-20).
Why Tennis Fans Should Care
The Billie Jean King Cup Europe Group III represents the grassroots of professional tennis — where emerging talents from smaller nations compete for the chance to climb the ranks. It’s here that future stars are forged, and the atmosphere at the Cassa di Risparmio Tennis Center is sure to be electric throughout the week.
Matches run daily from June 15 through June 21. Spectators can enjoy free entry and watch teams representing their nations with pride. The event is organized by the Federazione Sammarinese Tennis (FST) in collaboration with the International Tennis Federation (ITF).
