Bislig City proudly joined the celebration of the 66th Araw ng Surigao del Sur on June 15–16, 2026, as the province marked its founding anniversary with a series of meaningful events centered on community, service, and environmental stewardship.

The celebration kicked off with a flag-raising ceremony at the Bislig City Cultural and Sports Complex on June 15, bringing together local officials, employees, and residents in a show of civic pride and unity.

This year’s observance carried a more subdued tone, as the provincial government adopted austerity measures in light of the National State of Emergency. Instead of large-scale festivities, the program focused on essential and community-driven activities, including a thanksgiving mass, a commemorative program, and tree-planting activities in line with Republic Act No. 10176, also known as the Arbor Day Act.

Resources that would have gone to major events were redirected to essential services such as medical missions, service caravans, and community outreach programs — ensuring that the celebration directly benefited the people of Surigao del Sur.

The provincial government also implemented cost-saving and energy conservation measures, including modified work arrangements, limited official travel, and stricter regulation of government resources. Fleet management measures such as trip consolidation, optimized routing, and a no-idling policy were also enforced.

Despite the scaled-back festivities, the spirit of celebration remained strong. A basketball tournament added excitement to the occasion, with the thrilling finale held on June 17, 2026, at the Bislig City court, drawing teams and fans from across the city.

Bislig City’s participation in the Araw ng Surigao del Sur celebration reflects the community’s deep pride in its heritage and its commitment to the province’s shared future. The city continues to be a vibrant contributor to Surigao del Sur’s cultural and economic landscape.

The annual Araw ng Surigao del Sur is celebrated every June 19, honoring the province’s founding and the enduring spirit of the Surigaonon people.
