Zamboanga Doctors’ Hospital Celebrates 60 Years of Healing

Zamboanga City celebrated a major milestone in its healthcare history as Zamboanga Doctors’ Hospital (ZDH) marked its 60th anniversary with a fitting tribute to six decades of service, dedication, and commitment to the people of the City of Flowers.

A Legacy of Care and Commitment

Themed “From Care to Commitment, From Healing to Hope,” the anniversary celebration was graced by Zamboanga City Mayor Khymer Olaso and Vice Mayor Beng Climaco, who joined hospital officials, medical professionals, and community leaders in honoring theinstitution’s long-standing role in delivering quality healthcare to Zamboangueños. The actual founding anniversary falls on July 11, 2026.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony was led by Mayor Olaso, Vice Mayor Climaco, and ZDH President Ray Chicombing, followed by a blessing rite officiated by Fr. Jovel Palermo for a memorabilia exhibit honoring the hospital’s founders. City officials also offered flowers in tribute to the pioneering doctors who established the institution and laid the foundation for modern healthcare in Zamboanga City.

Honoring the Founding Physicians

Historical records recognize the following individuals as the founding doctors of Zamboanga Doctors’ Hospital: former ZDH President Dr. Espiridion Alvarez, Vice President Dr. Gregorio Brillantes, Dr. Reynaldo Reyes, Dr. Miguel Wee, Dr. Felipe Lavina, Dr. Francis Barrios, Dr. Gonzalo Navarro, Dr. Leoncio Noche, and Auditor Roberto Santos.

Their vision in establishing the hospital has left an indelible mark on the city’s healthcare landscape, creating a medical institution that has served generations of Zamboangueños through decades of growth and change.

Healthcare in Zamboanga City

The anniversary comes at a time when Zamboanga City is actively strengthening its healthcare infrastructure. Just recently, the city inaugurated the Doña Isabel C. Climaco Main Health Center in Santa Maria, a Department of Health project turned over to the City Government, further expanding access to medical services for residents.

Also present during the ZDH 60th anniversary celebration were Medical Director Dr. Edwina Cabato, Administrator Jocelyn Canto, Dietary Head Peregrina Dagalea, former Councilor Veepee Elago, and Tetuan Barangay Chairperson Richard Mariano.
