SM City Mindpro and SM City Zamboanga successfully led a large-scale coastal cleanup drive on June 7 along R.T. Lim Boulevard. The event celebrated World Oceans Day by bringing together communities, government agencies, and environmental advocates.

Participants worked together to protect the city’s marine ecosystem and promote sustainable practices.

Environmental Collaboration in Zamboanga City

The cleanup was organized in partnership with the local government and the Community Environment and Natural Resources Office. This initiative is part of the SM Green Movement, which focuses on community action for ecological protection.

By removing debris from the shoreline, partners hope to inspire long-term care for the oceans. Volunteers collected plastic waste, glass bottles, and other debris that threaten marine life. Organizers highlighted the importance of reducing single-use plastics to prevent future pollution.

The campaign aligns with global efforts like those organized by World Oceans Day to safeguard water resources.

Event Highlights and Participating Volunteers

The activity started early in the morning with a brief orientation to guide volunteers. Participants brought their own reusable water containers to minimize waste during the cleanup. Diverse groups joined the effort to ensure a clean and successful event:

  • Representatives from the local environment office coordinating the cleanup zones.
  • Volunteers from schools and universities helping clear plastic waste.
  • Uniformed personnel assisting with the removal of large debris.
  • Private sector organizations providing logistics and refreshments.
  • Civic clubs focusing on community awareness campaigns.
  • Local residents who joined to clean their neighborhood shoreline.

Supporting Local Development Initiatives

Community wellness in Zamboanga City reaches beyond environmental cleanup drives. Collaborative efforts also support critical social areas, such as the recently completed municipal health infrastructure to serve residents. Local agencies also focus on public school improvements to enhance learning spaces for youth.

Civic engagement and youth activities often connect with broader opportunities in the region. Many volunteers who participate in local projects are also active in Zamboanga career events to seek new positions. These various initiatives reflect a shared dedication to improving the quality of life in the area.
