The UP Fighting Maroons are going all-out for the future. The University of the Philippines has announced a landmark three-year partnership with global sportswear brand PUMA, marking a major new chapter for one of the UAAPs most popular programs.
The deal was formalized at a launch event held at the PUMA Store in SM North EDSA, where officials from both sides came together to unveil the collaboration. Starting with UAAP Season 88, the Fighting Maroons now take the court wearing PUMA performance apparel — a significant upgrade in the programs look and feel.
Why PUMA, Why Now
For UP, the partnership represents more than just new jerseys. Its about aligning with a global brand that shares the programs values and ambition.
At PUMA, we believe greatness lives within each athlete and the right support brings it to life, said PUMA Philippines Country Manager and UP alumnus Paolo Misa. As part of our global Go Wild initiative, were here to unleash the greatness within and help athletes experience the true highs of sport.
Misa, a UP alumnus himself, emphasized the personal nature of the deal: This long-term partnership is built on trust, grit, and the same fire to achieve greater things. And we at PUMA believe that the UP Fighting Maroons best is yet to come, and were honored to be on this journey with them.
What It Means for the Team
UP Mens Basketball Team manager Atty. Agaton Uvero called the deal a milestone for us, partnering with a global sportswear brand that aligns with our values and shares the same vision for the program.
Having a partner like PUMA really helps us step things up. More than the gear and jerseys, the support from the people behind the brand and the alignment of our visions are a perfect fit with how we want to grow as a team, Uvero added.
Head coach Goldwin Monteverde also acknowledged the significance of the partnership as the team looks to defend its crown: Were truly grateful to PUMA for believing in us and coming in at the right time. This season feels like a fresh start. Weve lost key players, but the hunger to compete and represent UP with pride is still there.
The Bigger UAAP Apparel Landscape
UPs move to PUMA adds another layer to the increasingly competitive UAAP apparel market. With adidas on NU, Nike on La Salle, Jordan Brand on Ateneo, Anta on UE and Adamson, and Puma now on both UP and FEU, the leagues jersey game has never been more diverse.
Fans looking to rep their school can explore our basketball jerseys collection for styles inspired by the UAAPs best looks. And with Season 89 set to tip off on September 12, expect fresh new designs across the board.
