BISLIG CITY, Surigao del Sur – As the 2026 Palarong Pambansa unfolds across the Caraga Region, Bislig City is stepping into the national spotlight — not just as a neighboring city, but as a proud partner in hosting the Philippines biggest student-athlete competition.

The national games, hosted by Agusan del Sur with Bayugan City as co-host, have drawn thousands of young athletes, coaches, and officials from every corner of the archipelago. And many of them are discovering what Bisliganons have long known: that this coastal city in Surigao del Sur is one of the most beautiful destinations in Mindanao.

Athletes and Tourists Flock to Bislig

On May 28 alone, approximately 180 Palarong delegates visited Tinuy-an Falls — the iconic three-tiered waterfall known as the Little Niagara of the Philippines — and the Bislig Baywalk. Visitors arrived from the National Capital Region, CALABARZON, Western Visayas, Negros Island Region, and the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao.

The Bislig City government expressed gratitude for the turnout, saying the visits keep the local community thriving and the city tourism sector energized.

Bislig Pride on the National Stage

Beyond tourism, Bislig City is also represented on the field. Local athletes from the city are competing in various events at the Palarong Pambansa, carrying the pride of Bisliganon heritage into the national competition.

The city has a strong tradition in athletics, and its student-athletes have consistently performed well in regional and national meets. The 2026 edition is no different, with Bislig competitors showcasing their talent and determination.

Tourism Infrastructure Gets a Boost

The Department of Tourism Caraga Region has been working closely with local government units to ensure that the influx of visitors is well-managed. Training sessions for tourism workers and frontline personnel were conducted as early as last year, and DOT accreditation standards have been enforced across local establishments.

DOT-13 Director Ivonnie Dumadag said the agency hopes to sustain the momentum generated by the Palarong Pambansa, ensuring that visitors to Caraga have a comfortable and seamless travel experience.

Looking Ahead

With the Palarong Pambansa running through May 31, Bislig City expects even more visitors in the coming days. The city government is encouraging tourists to explore not just Tinuy-an Falls but also the city other attractions, including its pristine coastline, mangrove forests, and vibrant local markets.

For a city that has long been a hidden gem of Surigao del Sur, the 2026 Palarong Pambansa is proving to be a golden opportunity to show the rest of the Philippines what Bislig has to offer.
