Hong Kong Intangible Cultural Heritage (ICH) Month 2026 is now underway, running from May 30 to June 30 under the theme “ICH Around Town.” Organized by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD) through its Intangible Cultural Heritage Office, this second annual edition brings together over 50 performances, 80 promotional booths, and 40 guided field visits spanning more than 100 ICH items across the city. One of the standout attractions is a breathtaking horse-themed light show projected onto the iconic dome of the Hong Kong Space Museum.
Horse-Themed Light Show at the Hong Kong Space Museum
Solely sponsored by The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust, the “Journey of the Horse: A Legacy of Arts and Culture” light show illuminates the exterior of the Hong Kong Space Museum in Tsim Sha Tsui nightly from 8:15 PM to 10:00 PM through June 24. The approximately three-minute looping projection uses immersive technology to bring a lifelike horse galloping across the museum’s round facade, tracing the animal’s deep cultural significance through Chinese history.
The visual journey showcases horses in classical paintings and artifacts, transitions into the mounts of Cantonese opera performers, and concludes with sugar-blown horse figurines crafted using traditional blown-sugar techniques. As The Standard reports, the horse eventually soars into the stars above Victoria Harbour, creating a stunning spectacle that blends heritage with modern projection artistry. Best of all, the show is completely free of charge.
District Carnivals and Hands-On Workshops
Throughout June, family-friendly carnivals and fun days are taking place across Hong Kong’s districts. On June 13 and 14, the “10th Anniversary Fun Day@HK ICH Centre” at Sam Tung Uk Museum in Tsuen Wan offers interactive booths, Cantonese opera performances, lion dance experiences, and demonstrations of traditional crafts. The “ICH Cuisine” Carnival at Oil Street Art Space on June 20 and 21 lets participants try their hand at making egg tarts, dim sum, and moon cakes under the guidance of master chefs.
Later in the month, the “ICH Wonder Adventure: Sea, Land & Sky Carnival” at TKO Plaza on June 27 and 28 features workshops on fishing net plaiting, salt making, and movable-type printing. These events provide a rare hands-on opportunity to engage with living heritage traditions that have shaped Hong Kong’s identity for generations.
