The Department of Transportation (DOTr) has confirmed that the upcoming MRT-7 line will operate with 14 stations, including a key stop in San Jose del Monte City, Bulacan — a development expected to transform daily commutes for hundreds of thousands of residents in the northern corridor of Metro Manila.

The MRT-7 project, which has been under construction for several years, will connect North Avenue in Quezon City all the way to San Jose del Monte. The line is designed to provide a fast, reliable rail alternative for commuters who currently endure hours of daily traffic along Commonwealth Avenue and the North Luzon Expressway.

San Jose del Monte’s inclusion as a terminal station is particularly significant given the city’s status as one of the most populous component cities in the Philippines. With a population exceeding 600,000, SJDM has long been identified as a critical transportation hub connecting Bulacan to the National Capital Region.

DOTr officials stated that the 14-station configuration has been finalized and that construction progress remains on track. The agency also confirmed that MRT-7 is targeting an opening date sometime in 2027, though exact timelines depend on right-of-way acquisitions and infrastructure completion milestones.

The rail line is expected to dramatically reduce travel time between San Jose del Monte and central Quezon City, cutting what is currently a two-to-three-hour road journey down to approximately 30 minutes by train. This improved connectivity is anticipated to boost economic activity, ease congestion, and open up new opportunities for businesses and commuters alike.

Local leaders in San Jose del Monte have welcomed the announcement, noting that improved mass transit has been a long-standing priority for the city. Previous transportation initiatives, including the House’s free bus ride program connecting SJDM to Welcome Rotonda in Quezon City, have already demonstrated the strong demand for better commuting options.

The MRT-7 project is part of the national government’s broader push to expand Metro Manila’s rail network and decongest major thoroughfares. Once operational, it is expected to serve hundreds of thousands of passengers daily, making it one of the most important rail lines in the country’s public transportation system.

Residents and commuters in Bulacan are encouraged to stay tuned for further updates as the project moves closer to completion.
