PNP, DepEd Bolster School Security Across Cavite Following Stabbing Incidents
GENERAL TRIAS, Cavite — The Philippine National Police (PNP) and the Department of Education (DepEd) have stepped up security measures in schools across Cavite province, including General Trias City, following a series of stabbing incidents that have raised alarm among parents, educators, and local officials.
The heightened security response comes after at least two separate stabbing incidents were reported in Cavite schools in recent weeks. In one incident, a Grade 11 student was stabbed by a schoolmate, while another case involved multiple students injured in a knife attack on campus. The incidents prompted several schools in the province to temporarily shift to online classes as a precautionary measure.
PNP Chief Gen. Nicolas Torre III has directed police units across Cavite to coordinate closely with school administrators and local government units, including those in General Trias, to ensure a visible police presence during school hours. The PNP has also committed to conducting regular patrols around school premises and establishing stronger coordination mechanisms with campus security personnel.
“We are treating these incidents with the utmost seriousness. Our children should feel safe in their schools, and we will work with all stakeholders to prevent any recurrence,” a PNP spokesperson stated.
For its part, DepEd has ordered a comprehensive security review of schools across the province. This includes assessing visitor management protocols, evaluating the presence of security personnel, and ensuring that emergency response plans are up to date. DepEd officials have also urged schools to strengthen their guidance and counseling programs to address bullying and other forms of student conflict before they escalate.
The Cavite PNP and DepEd have reinforced their joint security framework to prevent violence in educational institutions. Measures being implemented include increased police visibility near campuses, stricter monitoring of student welfare, and coordinated safety drills.
Parents and guardians in General Trias and nearby cities are advised to stay informed about their children’s school security protocols and to report any concerns immediately to school authorities or local police.
The PNP has assured the public that the recent incidents are being thoroughly investigated and that appropriate charges are being filed against those involved. Authorities continue to appeal for calm while emphasizing that the safety of students and school personnel remains the top priority.
