Imus City in Cavite has intensified its campaign against dengue after local health officials reported over 1,020 cases and five fatalities since the start of 2025. The alarming numbers prompted the city government to issue an executive order focusing on stronger prevention, detection, and community mobilization efforts.

The executive order directs all barangays in Imus to step up clean-up drives, eliminate mosquito breeding sites, and coordinate closely with the City Health Office. Special attention will be given to schools, public markets, and densely populated residential areas where dengue-carrying mosquitoes tend to thrive.

Dengue remains a major public health concern across the Philippines. According to the Department of Health (DOH), the first month of 2026 already saw 7,471 dengue cases nationwide — a figure that, while showing a 71-percent decrease from January 2025, still underscores the need for constant vigilance at the local level.

Imus City residents are encouraged to practice the 4-S strategy: Search and destroy mosquito breeding places, Seek early consultation when symptoms appear, Say yes to fogging when there is an outbreak, and Self-protect by using mosquito repellents and wearing long sleeves.

The city government has also partnered with local hospitals and rural health units (RHUs) to ensure rapid testing kits and medical supplies are available. Barangay health workers are being mobilized to conduct house-to-house visits and distribute information materials about dengue prevention.

Community leaders in Imus have expressed support for the measures, noting that the rainy season typically brings a spike in dengue cases. Residents are urged to report stagnant water and potential breeding sites to their respective barangay offices immediately.
