Amsterdam football club Ajax is on the hunt for a new main sponsor after telecoms giant Ziggo announced it will end its partnership with the club after 12.5 years. The deal between Ajax and Ziggo is set to conclude in July 2027, with the telecoms company stating it wanted to give the club ample time to secure a replacement.
Ziggo is the fourth main sponsor in Ajax storied history, following in the footsteps of TDK, ABN Amro, and Aegon. After ABN Amro, Ziggo has been the longest-serving main sponsor of the Amsterdam-based football powerhouse.
We are extremely grateful to Ziggo for their trust, support and commitment throughout all these years, both in good times and in more challenging periods, said Ajax commercial director Cas Biesta. The club expressed its appreciation for the long-standing relationship and the role Ziggo played in supporting the team through various seasons.
What This Means for Ajax Kit and Merchandise
For fans of football merchandise and custom apparel, sponsor changes often bring fresh design opportunities. When a new main sponsor is announced, it typically leads to updated jersey designs, new training kit collections, and a wave of fresh merchandise hitting the shelves. Ajax supporters who collect club apparel will be watching closely to see which brand steps up to take the prime shirt-front position.
The sponsor logo on a football jersey is one of the most visible branding placements in sports. For apparel companies and printing businesses, these sponsorship deals represent significant opportunities. Custom shirt printers and merchandise producers often see increased demand when clubs unveil new sponsor-branded kits.
Looking Ahead for the Amsterdam Club
Ziggo stated that it now wants to take a wider focus in terms of sponsorship than just football, signaling a strategic shift in the companys marketing approach. The decision opens the door for a new brand to associate itself with one of Europes most iconic football clubs.
With the Eredivisie season approaching and Ajax already unveiling new kits for the 2026/27 campaign, the timing of a new sponsor announcement could align perfectly with the clubs commercial strategy. Fans and apparel enthusiasts alike will be eager to see which company takes over and how it reflects on the clubs visual identity.
Stay tuned for updates on this developing story and what it means for Ajax merchandise, custom apparel, and the broader Dutch football sponsorship landscape.
