Slovenia is cementing its reputation as a high-tech European manufacturing hub after Japanese robotics giant Yaskawa completed a massive €32 million expansion at its Kočevje campus in the southern part of the country. The project, which began in April 2024 and officially wrapped up in June 2026, adds two brand-new facilities: a state-of-the-art European Robot Distribution Center and an upgraded robotic system production line.
The Kočevje and Ribnica area now hosts three integrated units — YER (YASKAWA Europe Robotics), the ERDC (European Robot Distribution Center), and YRS (YASKAWA Ristro) — forming one of the most advanced robotics ecosystems in the Europe, Middle East, and Africa (EMEA) region. What makes this especially impressive is that the campus leverages Slovenian engineering expertise to deliver innovative production processes, automated transport systems, and cutting-edge storage solutions.
Why This Matters for Slovenia
Yaskawa has called Slovenia home for over 30 years. Before this expansion, robots and controllers produced locally had to be shipped to warehouses in Germany and Sweden before reaching customers across Europe. Now, the new distribution center allows direct delivery to end users throughout the EMEA region — dramatically cutting lead times and reinforcing Slovenia’s strategic position in European supply chains.
The expanded production line also means Yaskawa can develop custom robotic solutions for a wider range of industrial processes, from automotive manufacturing to food processing and beyond. For a country of just 2.1 million people, hosting a global robotics powerhouse is a remarkable achievement and a testament to the skilled Slovenian workforce.
A Growing Tech Hub
This investment comes at a time when Slovenia is increasingly being recognized as a technology and innovation destination. From the University of Ljubljana’s new AI supercomputer Frida to a thriving startup ecosystem, the country is punching well above its weight in the European tech scene. The Yaskawa expansion adds another chapter to that story — one built on precision engineering, automation, and a commitment to manufacturing excellence.
For anyone who appreciates the intersection of technology and craftsmanship, Slovenia is a country worth watching. The Kočevje campus stands as proof that world-class innovation can emerge from even the most unexpected corners of Europe.
