Berlin has added a magnificent new landmark to its cultural skyline. The Sri Ganesha Temple, now recognised as one of the largest Hindu temples in Europe, officially opened its doors on Sunday, June 7, 2026, following a five-day consecration festival.
Located on the edge of Hasenheide park in Berlin’s Neukölln district, the temple’s 17-metre-high tower has become an unmistakable feature of the local skyline. Built using black granite hand-carved by stonemasons in Tamil Nadu, India, the temple represents over two decades of grassroots community effort.
A 21-Year Journey
Founded on September 24, 2005, the temple took 21 years to complete, funded entirely by donations and voluntary service. Today, it is run by ten volunteer board members and three priests, recognised as a registered non-profit in Germany.
The consecration ceremony — Mahakumbhabhishekam — ran June 3-7, 2026, with water from the Ganges and Berlin poured onto the temple spire. The festival included traditional music and Malakamba sports.
Open to All
The temple is open daily 4-6 PM at Hasenheide 106, welcoming all visitors regardless of background.
Custom Apparel for Cultural Celebrations
Major cultural openings like this create demand for commemorative and festival-themed apparel. Custom t-shirts, hoodies, and tote bags featuring temple motifs are popular for community events, Diwali, and Holi celebrations. For custom-printed apparel, visit phshirt.com.
Berlin continues to cement its reputation as a city where cultures thrive together. The Sri Ganesha Temple is a beautiful symbol of that spirit.
