Azerbaijan Airlines (AZAL) has officially launched its first-ever direct flight connecting Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan, with Shymkent, one of Kazakhstans largest and most vibrant cities. The inaugural flight took off on June 16, 2026, marking a historic milestone in regional air connectivity between the two Caspian nations.
Flight Schedule and Details
Under AZALs summer 2026 schedule, flights on the Baku-Shymkent-Baku route initially operate twice weekly, on Tuesdays and Saturdays. Starting June 30, 2026, the frequency will increase to three flights per week, reflecting strong anticipated demand. The direct flight takes approximately three hours, making it a convenient link between the two cities.

Shymkent is Kazakhstans third-largest city and a major hub for business, culture, and trade in the southern part of the country.
