Charter and heritage

From 520 students in 1948 to a Davao region network

RMC keeps a long institutional record. The milestones on this page come from the official college history page.

Rizal Memorial Colleges, Inc. was incorporated and registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission on 5 April 1948, founded by a group of young men who were alumni of schools and universities in Metro Manila. The first board of trustees was chaired by Leopoldo M. Abellera.

In its founding year the college opened with 520 students and offered complete basic education plus the first two years of Commerce, the first year of Liberal Arts, Law, and a one year Secretarial course. As enrollment grew it added the Agricultural program in 1977, the Graduate program in 1982, a Distance Secondary Education program in 1983, Secretarial Administration and a BS in Mathematics in 1985, and the Criminology program in 1997. A six month Caregiver course registered with TESDA began in 2004.

Four fires over the decades, in 1964, 1970, 2003, and 2008, did not stop the school. RMC rebuilt and expanded onto the rolling hills of Marfori Heights, a five hectare site that now holds a 2,000 capacity gymnasium, classrooms, libraries, laboratories, and administrative buildings. The college motto, Pro Deo Et Patria, frames its service and nationalism values.
