Batangas City once again proved its reputation as a hub of young talent as its campus journalist delegation delivered an impressive performance at the National Schools Press Conference (NSPC) 2026 held in Ormoc City, Leyte from April 13 to 17.

Leading the city contingent was Luis Keith L. Fernandez of the Philippine Science High School – CALABARZON Campus, who clinched the championship title in Secondary Sports Writing. He was joined by fellow awardee Lawrence C. Tana, who also secured a gold in the sports writing category, giving Batangas City a rare double-gold finish in the discipline.

The NSPC is the nations most prestigious journalism competition for elementary and secondary students, organized annually by the Department of Education (DepEd) through its Bureau of Learning Delivery. The event brings together thousands of campus journalists from all over the Philippines to compete across multiple categories including news writing, feature writing, editorial cartooning, and collaborative publishing.

The Batangas City delegates competed as part of the CALABARZON (Region IV-A) contingent, which reclaimed the overall championship title this year. A proud moment for the entire region and a testament to the quality of literacy and communication training in Batangas City schools.

The achievement reflects the growing strength of Batangas City education sector, where schools continue to nurture not only academic excellence but also creative and critical thinking through extracurricular programs like campus journalism. Parents and educators across the city have expressed pride in the students accomplishments.

City officials have also commended the young Batangueño journalists, noting that their success brings honor to Batangas City and inspires the next generation of learners to pursue excellence in media and communication.
