Batangas City once again proved its excellence in student journalism as its delegation delivered a stellar performance at the National Schools Press Conference (NSPC) 2026 held in Ormoc City, Leyte from April 13-17, 2026.

Student journalists from various schools in Batangas City secured championship titles and top placements across multiple categories, bringing pride to the city and contributing to Region IV-A’s historic comeback at the country’s most prestigious student journalism event.

Double Gold in Sports Writing

Leading the city’s delegation was Luis Keith L. Fernandez of Philippine Science High School – CALABARZON Campus, who clinched the championship in Secondary Sports Writing. Fernandez was joined by fellow Batangueño Lawrence C. Tana, who also secured a gold medal in the same category, giving the city a remarkable double-gold finish in sports writing.

The victories were part of a broader strong showing by the Batangas City contingent, which earned multiple individual and group titles across various journalism categories including news writing, feature writing, editorial writing, and layout design.

A Source of City Pride

The achievement reflects the strong foundation of campus journalism programs in Batangas City schools. Local educators and administrators have long supported student press clubs and journalism training, which has consistently produced nationally competitive young writers and media practitioners.

The Batangas City government, through its official website, celebrated the accomplishment and recognized the hard work and dedication of the student journalists, their coaches, and the schools that supported their journey to the national stage.
