The city government of San Jose del Monte in Bulacan has formally engaged Metro Pacific Water (MPW), a unit of the Pangilinan-led Metro Pacific Investments Corp. (MPIC), as its interim water service provider in a move aimed at addressing long-standing water supply issues across the city.
Under a two-month consultancy contract, MPW will serve as the temporary water service operator while conducting a comprehensive technical and operational review of the city’s water infrastructure. The assessment will cover the condition of pipelines, pumping stations, and other critical factors affecting water distribution throughout San Jose del Monte.
MPIC Chairman, President, and CEO Manuel Pangilinan emphasized the company’s commitment to supporting local governments in tackling infrastructure challenges. “The entry of MPW in San Jose del Monte reflects our broader commitment to support local governments in addressing critical infrastructure challenges that directly affect communities. We are here to rebuild confidence in the city’s water system,” Pangilinan said.
Mayor Florida Robes cited MPW’s proven track record in water and wastewater operations, financial capacity, and ability to deliver both urgent system fixes and long-term infrastructure upgrades as key factors in the selection. The city government has set an ambitious target of restoring reliable water supply to its constituents within one year.
“Rehabilitating and improving a water system takes time, careful planning, sustained investment, and close coordination between the private sector, the local government, and the community itself,” said MPW President and CEO Andrew Pangilinan.
The partnership marks a significant step for San Jose del Monte, one of the most populous cities in Bulacan, where rapid urbanization has put increasing pressure on water infrastructure. Residents have long experienced intermittent water supply, and the collaboration with MPW is expected to bring both immediate relief and a roadmap for sustainable water service in the years ahead.
Metro Pacific Water is one of the largest private water and wastewater service providers in the Philippines, with operations spanning multiple cities and municipalities across the country. Its entry into San Jose del Monte adds to MPIC’s growing portfolio of water infrastructure investments in key urban centers.
