The Provincial Government of Bulacan, in partnership with the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), officially inaugurated a new slope protection project in Barangay Assumption, City of San Jose del Monte on June 15, 2026.

The project was funded through the DILG Seal of Good Local Governance (SGLG) Incentive Fund, which was awarded to the Provincial Government of Bulacan following its successful attainment of the prestigious SGLG in 2024.

According to DILG Regional Director Araceli A. San Jose, CESO III, the newly completed structure is expected to safeguard nearby residents and properties from the risks of erosion and slope instability, while contributing to the province’s broader climate adaptation and disaster risk reduction initiatives.

With a total contract amount of ₱2,985,343.90, the project was implemented by J.G. Mendoza Builders. It involved the construction of a 76-linear-meter slope protection structure designed to mitigate soil erosion, stabilize vulnerable areas, and protect nearby communities and infrastructure from potential landslides.

Bienvenido E. Punzal, Chairman of Brgy. Assumption, noted that the structure allows water to flow directly and more efficiently toward the creek, significantly reducing the risk of flooding for nearby residents. He added that some areas in the barangay previously had eroding slopes near houses, but the new structure has stabilized the ground and even created additional space that residents can use for gardening.

In his message, Governor Daniel R. Fernando underscored that recognitions and awards only become truly meaningful when they are translated into tangible programs that improve the lives of Bulakenyos. He said the project serves as a reminder that every achievement of the province goes beyond recognition — it becomes projects and services truly felt by every Bulakenyo.

Construction on the project commenced on August 1, 2025, and was successfully completed on October 10, 2025 — ahead of its original target completion date of October 15, 2025.

This infrastructure milestone reflects San Jose del Monte’s continued commitment to disaster resilience and community safety. Residents of Barangay Assumption can now feel more secure knowing that their homes and properties are better protected against the risks of erosion and flooding.
