A new segment of the Cavite-Laguna Expressway (CALAX) has officially opened, positioning General Trias City as a prime destination for investments, job creation, and sustained economic growth. The infrastructure milestone is expected to transform the city’s connectivity and commercial landscape for years to come.

The newly inaugurated Subsection 3 of CALAX spans 8.64 kilometers and is expected to accommodate around 6,000 vehicles per day. The segment improves travel efficiency between Laguna and Cavite, reducing travel time significantly for commuters and businesses alike.

A Gateway to Greater Opportunities

General Trias City Mayor Luis “Jon Jon” Ferrer IV underscored the importance of the new interchange, describing it as a gateway to greater opportunities for residents and businesses. Local officials expressed optimism that the improved infrastructure will attract new investments and generate employment across the city.

“General Trias is now better positioned than ever to attract investments, generate employment, and build a more resilient economy,” said Ayos, highlighting the transformative potential of the expressway expansion.

Part of a Larger Infrastructure Vision

CALAX is a 44.6-kilometer controlled-access toll expressway that will eventually connect the Manila-Cavite Expressway (Cavitex) in Kawit, Cavite to the South Luzon Expressway (SLEX) in Mamplasan, Laguna. Once completed, it will form a seamless transport corridor across the CALABARZON region.

The next phase of construction will connect CALAX to Cavitex by bridging Governor’s Drive to Kawit — a stretch spanning approximately 18.14 kilometers. This phase will also include an additional interchange at Open Canal, further into General Trias, improving accessibility for the city’s growing residential communities.

Boosting General Trias’ Commercial Appeal

General Trias, with its 33 barangays and a population exceeding 450,000, has been rapidly emerging as a township and commercial hub in Cavite. Major infrastructure projects like CALAX, combined with improving accessibility and a steadily growing residential population, are driving this momentum.

The expressway development complements other growth drivers in the city, including new residential subdivisions, commercial establishments, and industrial zones. For businesses considering expansion into Cavite, General Trias offers a compelling combination of strategic location, improved connectivity, and a large, young workforce.

What This Means for Residents

For the residents of General Trias, the new CALAX segment means shorter travel times, better access to employment centers in both Laguna and Metro Manila, and a boost to property values. As the city continues to develop its infrastructure, General Trias is well on its way to becoming one of the most livable and economically vibrant cities in the province.
