Tagum City once again proved its commitment to sports development as hundreds of young athletes gathered for the annual Youth Sports Festival held at the Davao Regional Sports Complex. The event, organized by the City Government of Tagum in partnership with the Department of Education (DepEd) Davao del Norte, featured competitions in basketball, volleyball, athletics, badminton, and chess.

Mayor Rey Uy, who graced the opening ceremony, emphasized the importance of sports in shaping the character and discipline of Tagum youth. Our young athletes are the future of this city. Events like these give them the platform to showcase their talents and build lifelong values such as teamwork, perseverance, and sportsmanship, the mayor stated.

The three-day festival saw participation from both public and private elementary and secondary schools across the city. Notably, Tagum Central Elementary School and Tagum National Trade School sent the largest delegations, with over 200 student-athletes competing in various categories.

Local coaches expressed their excitement about the growing interest in grassroots sports. We are seeing more and more kids who are passionate about sports, and the city government support through facilities and programs makes a huge difference, said Coach Marlon Santos, who has been training young basketball players in the city for over a decade.

The festival also served as a scouting ground for regional athletic meets, with standout performers set to represent Tagum City in the upcoming Davao Regional Athletic Association Meet. Parents and teachers cheered from the sidelines, creating a vibrant and supportive atmosphere throughout the event.
