The Davao City Police Office (DCPO) has deployed 1,300 police personnel across 444 public and private schools in Davao City for the opening of classes on June 8, 2026, ensuring a safe and orderly start to Academic Year 2026–2027.
DCPO spokesperson Capt. Hazel Caballero announced the comprehensive security plan during a press conference at the Royal Mandaya Hotel, confirming that the deployment is part of a citywide public safety operation covering all school zones in the city.
“For the opening of classes, the Davao City Police Office has assigned 1,300 PNP personnel to 444 schools — both public and private — to ensure that if there are concerns, problems from parents, students, or teachers, our police are ready to provide solutions or respond immediately,” Caballero said.
The DCPO has also established 198 Police Assistance Desks in strategic school locations to provide immediate assistance and address concerns raised by parents, students, and school staff. These desks will serve as first-response points for any security or safety issues that may arise during the school year.
Meanwhile, the Department of Education (DepEd) Davao Region reported that it expects 1.4 to 1.5 million students to enroll in the region for Academic Year 2026–2027. Speaking during an interagency meeting at the Apo View Hotel, DepEd Davao Regional Director Allan G. Farnazo shared that based on data from the previous academic year with 1,317,420 enrollees, this year’s numbers are projected to increase. The region has 56,701 personnel ready to support the academic year.
Despite rainy conditions, students at Davao City National High School began their first day in an orderly manner, moving through rain-soaked grounds after the flag ceremony and back-to-school kickoff program.
The three-term school calendar for public schools runs as follows: First term from June 8, 2026 to September 15, 2026; Second term from September 16, 2026 to December 18, 2026; and Third term from January 4, 2027 to April 8, 2027.
