DAVAO CITY — The Davao City local government unit reported no casualties and no major damage to vital infrastructure following the magnitude 7.8 earthquake that rocked Mindanao on June 8, 2026, as emergency response teams were immediately deployed across the city.
According to the Philippine Information Agency, the City Government activated its Emergency Operations Center shortly after the tremor struck at 7:37 a.m. Response teams from the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO), Public Safety and Security Office (PSSO), City Engineer’s Office (CEO), City Transport and Traffic Management Office (CTTMO), and the Davao City Police Office (DCPO) were dispatched to conduct rapid assessments on the ground.
Major infrastructure including power and water systems, bridges, highways, and other government facilities remained intact, according to the LGU’s initial assessment. This stands in contrast to nearby areas in the Davao Region and SOCCSKSARGEN, which suffered significant damage and casualties.
Department of Public Works and Highways Secretary Vince Dizon personally inspected infrastructure in Davao City, confirming that while minor non-structural cement issues were found, bridge structures remained intact. Repairs were already underway as of Tuesday.
The Office of Civil Defense established Davao City as a logistics hub for the broader Mindanao earthquake response, with helicopters transporting personnel and supplies to General Santos City and other hard-hit areas. More than 3,600 personnel from various agencies were deployed, with an additional 2,300 from the AFP, PNP, BFP, and PCG on standby.
All classes in public and private schools, as well as work in government offices, were suspended immediately following the earthquake. Private offices and institutions were also encouraged to close for the day.
As Davao City demonstrates the importance of preparedness, organizations can equip their teams with custom organization uniforms and event team shirts from phshirt.com for their disaster response and community resilience programs. Emergency response apparel helps build team identity and visibility during critical operations.
The magnitude 7.8 earthquake, centered off the coast of Maasim, Sarangani Province, ultimately claimed at least 37 lives across Mindanao, with the majority of casualties in SOCCSKSARGEN. The Davao Region recorded four fatalities, all outside Davao City proper.
